Understanding the enemy, their weapons systems, tactics and intent is a critical aspect to countering the threat and reducing the risk of attack. Intelligence and understanding is critical to the success of the Counter-IED (C-IED) system; this knowledge informs the three pillars — Attack the Network, Defeat the Device and Prepare the Force — and does much to shape the role of Weapons Technical Intelligence (WTI). As part of WTI, Weapons Intelligence Teams (WIT) assume the first level in the collection, analysis and dissemination of information related to how the enemy operates. A vast amount of information and evidence can be collected from the scene of an IED incident.

Specialist WIT teams are trained to attend and exploit the scene. Able to significantly contribute to the Technical Intelligence (TECHINT) strand, WIT provides intelligence from the detailed forensic collection and exploitation of enemy weapons and associated components.

Worldwide Counter Threat Solutions (WCTS) has demonstrated a wealth of knowledge in the Weapons Intelligence and TECHINT arena. Personnel has been trained by the British Army to the highest standards within the C-IED disciplines of High Threat Improvised Explosive Device Disposal and Weapons Intelligence, and have applied their expertise within the UK, on operations and in post-conflict arenas across the globe.

This expertise was recognized by NATO in 2011, when WCTS was awarded, as sole provider, the contract to provide WIT training through the NATO C-IED Centre of Excellence. WCTS WIT Training is also fully supported by the Worldwide Threat Intelligence team, producers of the world-renowned TRITON series of reports, which provide immediate threat information, to ensure any training is current and relevant.

WCTS Weapons Intelligence Team training is modular. Counter-threat courses can be adapted to meet the customers’ targeted requirements — be they for military, operationally specific tasks or civil law enforcement agencies. This flexibility allows WCTS to take into account such factors as the function of the customer organization, the objective of a particular task, and the level of training and experience of nominated personnel. Training can be undertaken at any suitable location nominated by the customer.

Dependent upon the type of training being delivered WCTS Intelligence and understanding training includes some or all of the following areas of competence:

  • Introduction to Intelligence and Understanding
  • Exploitation
  • Device Types
  • IT and Web Based TI
